INSIDE
A Window Display at Gallery A3
INSIDE / Window Exhibition
Continuing a series of gallery window exhibitions inaugurated this summer, Gallery A3 presents INSIDE, a group show by member artists, opening on Thursday, November 5. Exhibit co-coordinator Janet W. Winston explains that the theme of INSIDE reflects the altered way we navigate life now, as a consequence of the pandemic. “Of necessity, we have moved inside our thoughts, our hearts, our fears, and the constraints of having limited physical contact with our family, friends, and community. This exhibition explores how some artists have reacted to these changes.”
Co-coordinator Larry Rankin amplifies, “The pandemic narrows our horizons and holds even friends and families at ‘safe distance.’ And now our days darken with the encroaching winter. What do we encounter when we venture inside? For this exhibit, we ask artists to search insightfully ‘inside’ their bubble. Then, to express what they find, go ‘outside’ the box (and outside their comfort zone) to work in different media, materials, or methods.”
This exhibition in the gallery’s windows represents Gallery A3’s efforts to keep visual art actively present in the community, despite restrictions on the gallery’s full opening, due to the coronavirus. This month, in addition to the gallery’s front windows, exhibition space expands into the adjacent storefront of the temporarily closed GoBerry Frozen Yogurt in Amherst.
Gallery A3, an artists’ cooperative, is supported in part by a grant from the Amherst Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. The gallery also thanks GoBerry Frozen Yogurt for graciously allowing its windows to serve as exhibition space for INSIDE.
