Karen Iglehart
One of the influences in my work comes from my connection to Buddhism and a desire to create and share a space that is not filled with commentary, or story line.
Actually, I am trying to do the opposite, to create space that allows the mind to rest, or at least pause. To perceive color and forms without other information. Letting abstraction open boundaries. Recently the abstract paintings have been influenced by my reconnection to jazz and especially Miles Davis. Space, quiet, then intensity of notes and sound in contrast. Conversation between highlights.
Covid has also been the reference for recent work in Dialogue Series….distance and separation. Attempting to connect.
Color plays a major role in my paintings…relationships, subtleties, contrasts….all inform how I work.
