UNFOLDED & FRAGMENTED: ACCORDION BOOKS
Laura Holland uses the accordion book format to put things together, placing photographs in sequence, and hoping the viewer follows the flow of an implied narrative that unfolds to unite individual images across the pages, and fills in formal connections of line, color, and shape that emerge between separate images. These books stretch horizontally, each one zigzagging five to six feet long. The images tend to be close to home—a dishtowel, candlesticks, and electrical cords—but a home that is being dismantled and deconstructed. Holland also uses the accordion structure to take or break apart images, in a series of small-scale books (each panel, four by six inches). In these, she starts with a single large photographic image, made abstract through close cropping. She then folds, cuts, and refolds the original photograph into eight pages that unfold with fragmented imagery.

BORDERLANDS
In BORDERLANDS, Tom Morton shows a series of recent paintings as well as oil pastel drawings. These works represent a continuation of a fascination with strong patterns and symbols inspired by ancient carvings and other decorative sources, but now are combined with landscape and abstract subjects. Most of the paintings feature rough paint surfaces and intense color with oils laid on over acrylics.
